VIVE LA VOID RED RIDER

Best known for her role as one half of the Portland-based space-rock outfit Moon Duo, Sanae Yamada has just revealed 'Red Rider', the first taste from her exciting new psychedelic side-project Vive La Void. Veering away from the fuzzed-out guitar drones we've come to expect from Moon Duo, Vive La Void's 'Red Rider' is a throbbing synth-heavy number that wiggles and pulsates beneath Yamada's eerily smooth vocals. Atmosphere is key here as Yamada explains, "I wanted the voice to have a kind of ghostly quality, to emerge from and recede back into the song, or to pass over it like weather. It’s one of many layers of sound, which are meant to blend together in such a way that on one listen you might hear one thing, and on another listen you might hear something else, so the music seems to change even as it stays the same." Vive La Void's self-titled full length will be released via Sacred Bones on May the 4th (or Star Wars Day for the space-enthusiasts amongst us). -HLMX
